Kiir appoints 7 ministers to Ebola task-force

President Salva Kiir on Thursday formed a high-level national task-force to counter the threat of Ebola Virus Disease.

In a provisional order, Kiir appointed the Ministers of Cabinet Affairs, Health, Interior, Finance and Planning, Transport; Wildlife, conversation and Tourism and General Education and Instruction to the task force.

Other members are the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of National Security, and the Director-General Civil Aviation Authority.

Cabinet Minister Dr. Elia Lumuro will chair the task-force alongside his deputy and health minister, Yolanda Awel Deng.

They are mandated to ensure the country is fully prepared to respond to the Ebola threats from the neighboring Uganda.

The task-force will also carry out an assessment and establish isolation centers equipped with medical personnel and medicines.

Early this week, the cabinet approved further 30,797,543 million US dollars, in addition to 500,000 dollars approved for the response last month.

The budget is for setting up mechanisms to monitor and control the Ebola virus from spreading into the country.

President Kiir has directed the Minister of Finance and Planning, to avail the approved funding.
