The death toll of the Saturday Yei-Road ambush has risen to 21, an official has said.

Eyewitnesses say children as young as seven years old are among the dead.

They say about 200 passengers were traveling in about 4 lorries when armed men opened fire on the vehicle about 50 kilometers from Yei town.

21 others were wounded in the attack, according to the Minister of Information of Eastern Nile State, who visited the scene, describes the incident to Eye Radio…

“Some wounded were brought and they have been admitted to SPLA Military Hospital in Giada and some of them are also admitted to Chinese Hospital,” Jacob Lem said.

Eye Radio’s attempts to contact the police over the matter were not successful.

The motive of the attack is not clear. However, there have been reported cases of attack on vehicles plying the road.

Barely two weeks ago, about 14 people were killed by armed men along the road.
