The Juba City Council is cautioning water suppliers in Juba against fetching water in areas considered to be contaminated by waste along the Nile River.

The City Council said during the rain, water tankers should fetch water from only designated points along the river in Juba.

The Director at the Department of Health, Calisto Tombek, said there are areas along the Nile that are polluted by waste -washed into the river by the rains.

He said such water -if supplied to the public, will contribute to an outbreak of waterborne diseases in the area.

Mr. Tombek told Eye Radio’s ‘Sundown Program that the City Council has designated Lologo as the only place for fetching water along the river when it rains.

“If it is raining, I don’t want any person to fetch water from the river during the whole day. If you want to fetch water from the river, you have to go to a point in Lologo,” warned Mr Tombek.

“We’re monitoring those who are not following this instruction and anyone who is going to fetch water in the same place on the same day -immediately after the rain, that person will be punished.”

Mr. Tombek said drivers should not fetch water from the river immediately after it stops raining.
