The newly appointed Commissioner of Pochalla County, Jonglei, says primary school pupils in the area are not able to graduate to secondary school due to a lack of higher learning institutions.

Commissioner Omot Acheu said no secondary school has been constructed in the whole of Pochalla County since the 90s.

He told Eye Radio’s Dawn Program those pupils who complete primary school in Pochalla travels to Ethiopia to continue with their secondary school studies.

“We have a very big problem in education, since 1996 when the SPLA liberated Pochalla County, the primary school was opened,” he explained.

“From that time up to now, there is no secondary school in Pochalla.

“Now because of the problems that all of us know, the salaries did not reach the county and that let teachers not open the schools because they have nothing to eat.”

Commissioner Omot urged the national government and developmental organizations to support Pochalla County with at least one secondary school.
