The governments of South Sudan and Uganda have reportedly struck a deal on power trade to boost socio-economic development in the border towns between the two countries.

The 400kV Olwiyo-Juba Transmission line will run from Olwiyo said to be operating at 132vk to Oraba, Elegu, Kaya, and Nimule border towns.

Both countries have instituted a joint committee to plan and coordinate the project’s development

The deal inked in Juba is rooted in the 2015 Memorandum of Understanding on the development and distribution of the infrastructure to connect the two countries.

The cooperation agreement is anticipated to boost productivity along the border areas

Peter Marcelo Jaleng, Minister of Electricity and Dams who represented South Sudan said “The project will benefit people of both countries.’

Nankabirwa Nssentambu who lead a delegation from Uganda said the deal ‘marks the beginning of a serious cooperation in Power Trade between the neighboring countries,”

South Sudan and Uganda have reportedly secured funds from the African Development Bank to carry out the feasibility studies based on Public Private Partnership.
