The Secretary-General of Jonglei says the state has saved almost one million pounds after screening out about 250 ghost names on the government payroll.

Mawut Achiek Guarak says it was identified that some of the names came about when assets were being distributed after the state was divided into three.

“These are people who are not there; they never existed and they never have evidence supporting their employment in the first place,” Mr Guarak told Eye Radio.

He says the state is now screening more names to find out nonexistent employees in the payroll system.

Mr Guarak says the name will be presented to the state Council of Ministers after the screening. Currently, Jonglei state has more than 5,900 government employees.
