Isaiah Chol Aruai, the chairperson of the Bureau also says Warrap is the host of the largest population of IDPs in the country which is estimated to be more than 300,000 compared to the rest of the States.

He pointed out that the new South Sudan Population Estimation Survey is not politically motivated.

On the 6^th of his month, the government launched the population estimation survey placing Warrap State as the highest with an estimated number of over 2.4 million people in the country.

The report stirred debates among some members of the public with some questioning the methodology used by the National Bureau of Statistics to gather the data.

He says they used what he referred to as Satellite imagery to capture every structure in the whole country.

According to him, Warrap became with the highest number of inhabitants because of its population density.

Other factors he mentioned include the state hosts many internally displaced persons and the number of persons per household is more compared to other locations in the country.

“The density populated locations were more in Warrap than other places so the average household size in Warrap State was higher you will get in a house people more than twelve,” Isaiah Chol Aruai told a press conference in Juba.

“We also had internal displacement, Warrap has [host] more IDPs about three hundred thousand are from Warrap so there are factors that are why it is high,

“Many people will think that this is politically motivated because the President comes from there, those of Isaiah have manipulated the figure that is not, this is technical.”

However, a man who introduced himself during the press conference as a concerned citizen disagreed with Isaiah Chol Aruai.

Franco James says he expected Central Equatoria to lead because the capital city is accommodating people from across the country.

“According to the Chairman, he said they have used satellite imagery and at the same time sent people to collect data, and the data is taken to be analyzed, put into a certain software in the computer to project and to bring the estimation, but, if you put Juba as a capital city I think Juba alone is hosting a lot it can be more than one or two million,” Franco James asked.

“Juba alone because I have been in other states I know the states and I know how the people are there some of these states I visited and I know them so that is why I was not convinced.”

The population estimation Survey was conducted between May 28^th to June 15^th, 2021 in the ten states and three administrative areas.

In September 2022 the modeled population estimation results were approved by the Economic cluster during a meeting which was chaired by Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga.

On March, 10^th 2023, the Council of Ministers meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir endorsed and approved the result.

According to the Bureau, all those who were in the country were counted except the South Sudanese refugees in the neighboring countries and refugees being hosted in the country.

The Bureau added that the results will be used for development planning, decision making, provision of services, monitoring the performance of national development strategy, and reference for research among others.

It is now expected to do data analysis and compile thematic reports and user cases.

They will also compile the main report, and publish and disseminate it across the country.
