The President has relieved from office the national Minister of Interior Aleu Ayieng Aleu and the Caretaker Governor of Northern Bhar al-Ghazal State, Kuel Aguer Kuel.

The changes were made in two decrees broadcast on SSTV last evening.

Rosemary Wilfred has more in the following report…

Mr Aleu Ayieny was appointed interior minister in July 2013. In the first decree, the president removed him from office but did not appoint a replacement.

The Deputy Minister of Interior, Jadala Augustino, will be acting as minister.

In the second decree, the President sacked Kuel Aguer Kuel and named deputy governor, Salva Chol Ayat, as the caretaker.

Kuel’s removal from office comes in the middle of a political wrangle in the state.

MPs impeached Kuel from his position in February over corruption allegations, including awarding a letter of credit worth millions of US dollars to his son. He has since denied the allegations.
