Igga asks int’l community to support building of SPLA barracks

Vice President James Wani Igga has urged the international community to help in building barracks for SPLA soldiers that will be moved out of Juba.

He made the call while addressing a meeting of African Heads of States and governments in New York.

Last week, the SPLA started surveying areas 25 kilometers from the center of Juba, in an effort to identify places where the army will be relocated.

It is part of the implementation of the Compromise Peace Agreement, which the warring parties and other stakeholders signed in August.

In a statement issued by his press secretary, the vice president said building the barracks would also help in confirming the SPLA troops’ numbers and contributing to security policy making.

He said the government reservations at the signing of the agreement should not be misinterpreted as lack of goodwill in implementing the agreement.

Mr. Igga is expected to meet the leader of the SPLM in Opposition, Dr. Riek Machar, and the leader of the Political Detainees, Pagan Amum, at the sidelines of the meeting.

They will take part in a public meeting organized by the UN Security Council to mobilize support for the implementation of the peace agreement.
