Author : | Published: Monday, September 28, 2015

The Caretaker Governor of Central Equatoria State says civilians in Juba should be disarmed to reduce insecurity in the town.

According to past reports, there is proliferation of small arms in the capital. Juma Ali says the presence of guns in hands of civilians had led to increased killings and robberies.

Mr. Ali says disarmament is part of his plans for the whole state.

“The citizens should be disarmed, especially in Juba town, and with the peace that the President has signed, there is a need for a comprehensive disarmament process at the national and state level,” Mr Ali told The Dawn show.

“Whether in the towns or camps there should be disarmament because the guns inside have come from outside and the one from outside are coming inside. So if we disarm them, I think no one will be a danger to the other person.”

Mr. Ali says his administration will also deal with the ‘unknown’ gunmen who are causing insecurity in Juba and the surrounding area.
