No Magistrates in Greater Kapoeta

Author : | Published: Saturday, May 18, 2013

Lack of magistrates in greater Kapoeta courts has resulted in a huge backlog of criminal and civil cases and overcrowded cells in the Counties, an official has said.

Several people arrested in various towns and other localities of Kapoeta Region are unlikely to leave police cells any time soon due to lack of resident magistrates to deal with cases on time.

Members of the community have expressed discontent over the procedures of the court and the lack of magistrates in settling court cases in the region, Kapoeta North County Commissioner, Lokai Iko, told Eye Radio.

“Cases have accumulated, especially murder cases. Nobody passes them, no body to judge them and that is a big challenge to us,” said Hon. Iko.
