Gov’t urged to enclose Malakal airport

Author : | Published: Monday, March 9, 2015

The Director of Malakal Airport is urging the State and the National Governments to construct a fence around the airport and extend the runway.

The airport has been unenclosed since its inception.

Saleh Akot says this is to ensure the safety of passengers and people within the premises.

Air travel is the major means of transport from Malakal to other parts of the country, especially during the rainy season when roads are impassable.

“Fence is one of the most needed things for the safety of flights in the airport because it can control the area. But if the airport is open anybody can enter and can cause accident in anytime,” Mr Akot told Eye Radio.

Mr. Akot said the airport also lack communication materials to direct the flights because most of them were looted during the crisis.
