Gov’t not sure when SPLM-IO delegates will arrive in Juba

The government is yet to receive the list and the exact date of arrival of an advance team of the SPLM in Opposition, the Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth, has said.

Both sides announced last week in Addis Ababa that the advance team will be in Juba mid this month for the implementation of a security arrangements deal.

The government, the SPLM in Opposition, and the Former Detainees signed the agreement in August to end conflict.

“We have not yet received anything from outside they have not…..given us and sent as their list and they are have also not given us the date of their coming,” Mr Makuei told Eye Radio.

Meanwhile, a summit of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission is expected to be held in Juba next week.

Mr Makuei said it will be attended by the heads of state and the governments of IGAD-plus to officially open the commission.

He said the SPLM in Opposition will not be part of the summit.

“They [SPLM-IO] can only attend the inaugural ceremony, but not the summit.”

The JMEC will monitor the implementation of the peace agreement and report to the South Sudan Council of Ministers, the African Union and the UN Secretary General every three months.
