The U.S Embassy in South Sudan has described media reports that an American citizen was tortured to death by the SPLA in Opposition forces in December last year as “Inaccurate”.

According to the press release issued yesterday, the Embassy says in mid-December, several South Sudanese newspapers published claims that a U.S. citizen was tortured to death by armed forces loyal to Dr. Riek Machar.

The Embassy says following its thorough investigation, it has come to a conclusion that these stories were “inaccurate”.

The statement says the U.S. Embassy cannot share further details regarding the case due to “privacy restrictions”.
