Egypt sets up clean water installation in Juba varsity

The Government of Egypt has launched a facility to provide clean water at the University of Juba.
The project is part of Egypt’s investment of more than 26 million US dollars to provide water in parts of South Sudan.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Juba, Professor John Akech, says the construction of the water facility started six months ago.

“This project is going to be of immense support to students and to staff, it provides water to labs clinic and also for drinking,” he said, adding that “it is safe water because it is actually 100 meter deep well and provides a capacity of 160 barrels once it fills,” he said.

For his part, Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources, Mohamed Abdel Ati, says the development objective depends on the stability of the country.

He says “it is very important to avail some sort of comfort to continue their education; South Sudan’s stability is very vital for us as it is for you because with the stability of South Sudan, development activities will continue and investor will come.”

The South Sudan’s Minister of Water Resources, Sophia Gai, said Egypt has also pledged to construct other water facilities in worth 5 million in Namurnyang, Gogrial and Tonj States.
