Rwanda is expected to deploy today, a police peacekeeping unit of 240 personnel to replace its current force serving under UNMISS.

According to Rwandese media, the Rwandese Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, Dan Munyuza, made the statement yesterday.

“You have been trained and equipped with skills required for service excellence and it’s now time to step in the footsteps of those you are replacing and apply those abilities for the good of the people of South Sudan,” DIGP Munyuza told the troops, as quoted by New Times daily, addressing them ahead of their deployment.

The Rwanda Formed Police Unit Two, RFPU2, contingent comprises of 45 females.

It will replace another unit of 240 police peacekeeping force that has been serving under the UNMISS for the last one year.

Rwanda has about 1000 police peacekeepers in various UN missions across the world.

Last month, a report by the Center for Civilians in Conflict said Rwanda forces were among African contingents that did better in protecting civilians.
