Denied exit from country unconstitutional-Akol

The leader of the SPLM-DC, Dr. Lam Akol, says the government continues to prevent him from travelling outside the country.

In September this year, Dr. Akol, and other four political leaders were stopped from traveling to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to participate in the peace talks.

They were denied exit visa at the Juba International airport.

Addressing the media in Juba yesterday, Dr. Akol said the government is violating his right as a citizen of South Sudan.

“It is unconstitutional of course article 27 of the constitution says each citizen is free to travel and leave South Sudan and return to it. It is very clear, since there are no specific charges that can prevent me from travelling this is unconstitutional.” The party leader said.

Dr. Akol said his passport was confiscated and up to now it has not been returned to him.
