Members of the Red Army Foundation are urging the government to create more jobs for the former child soldiers.

The Red Army are thousands of children who fought along the SPLA during the 21-year civil war with Khartoum.

They were officially named the Red Army or Jeish Al-Amer in 1985. Some of the them were taken to the US where they acquired education.

The chairperson of the foundation says majority of the members of the Red Army who returned from the Diaspora have not been employed.

Deng Bol told Eye Radio’s Dawn show that they came back home with a lot of experiences that the country needs for development.

“They have got education they have got experiences that South Sudan at this time really needs,” said Mr Bol.

“We plan to propose to the government of South Sudan to consider programs that will bring back members of the Red Army who are now in the Diaspora, who have been there for very long time for the last 15 or 10 years.”

Yesterday, members of the Red Army celebrate the 29th anniversary of the beginning of their movement.

They are also celebrating the second anniversary of the establishment of the Red Army Foundation.
