Juba High Court has found Longar Akok guilty of murdering his wife and another man in Juba in June 2022.

Akok has been found guilty under section section 206 of the Penal Code 2008.

The court however scheduled the announcement of the verdict to December 23, to allow the family to consult on whether to choose blood compensation, or death penalty.

According to prosecution evidence obtained by the court, Akok gunned down his wife Rebecca Anyon and a man identified as Akech Manut in June when he found them seated together at a pub.

Armed with an AK-47 rifle, the offender opened fire on the victims, when he found them seated together at a pub.

He shot his wife with four bullets while the young man had five bullet wounds.

Following the deadly incident, Akok is said to have handed himself over to the Malakia Police Station.

Subek said the brutality in which the double murder was carried out prompted the court to issue the above-mentioned verdict.

“Court order the accused Boby Longar Akok is guilty and convicted under section 206 of the penal act 2008 signed under my hand today 19th of December 2022,” Subek read out the verdict.

Judge Subek said the accused did not act in a way that the court qualifies for exceptions mentioned in section 210 of the South Sudan penal act 2008.

“I want to say the accused will not be able to benefit from any of the defenses mentioned in section 210 of the penal act 2008 I found the accused guilty and I convicted him of murder under section 206 of the South Sudan penal act 2008.”

Longer Akok got married to Rebecca Anyon Kot in 2013 and had three children – two boys and a girl.
