A senior SPLM official has said the conflicts in South Sudan are the reality of Prophet Isaiah’s Biblical prediction that God will punish Sudan.

Senior Presidential Advisor, Gen. Kuol Manyang Juuk spoke on Sunday, December 18, 2022, during a thanksgiving event to welcome newly appointed SPLM member Stephen Dheiu Dau.

Manyang says the SPLM is not to be blamed for what is happening in the country, which is a foretold biblical curse.

The war veteran says the curse will continue until the time that God sees fit for it to end.

Speaking at the social gathering on Sunday, Manyang says the prophecy will not stop him from praying for peace in the country.

“I am not frustrated with the current situation – the wars. I tell people we [SPLM] are not responsible and not to be blamed for this insecurity. This is something prophesied by the prophet Isaiah. God punished Sudan and we are the Sudanese,” said Gen. Kuol.

“The prophecy was before even Christ, how do they know that there is the country that is going to be called Sudan at that time, even when we became independent,

“We clicked on the word Sudan, we don’t move out of Sudan name, and we don’t create a new name and we are Sudanese,

“We knew very well that Sudan has been cursed in the Bible. So, this curse continues to be until the time God will say enough is enough, now then the people of South Sudan become free, I don’t blame us as a punishment of God.”

South Sudanese Christians believe that the Old Testament book of Isaiah chapter 18 refers to South Sudan.

The prophecy which dates to the 8th Century Before Christ reads talks about the land of Cush in Isaiah in verse 3, describing a land divided by rivers where the people are tall and smooth-skinned.
