U.S. President Joe Biden caused some confusion when he concluded a speech with ‘God save the queen, man’ at the National Safer Communities Summit in the state of Connecticut.

According to several media outlets, Biden, 80, spoke to gun safety advocates and survivors of gun violence for about 30 minutes Friday afternoon at the University of Hartford and said “Alright? God save the Queen, man.”

USA today reports that, “God Save The Queen” began trending on Twitter soon after with many addressing their own confusion and criticizing the gaffe.

The president, who intends to stand for a second term coming 2024 left Americans scratching their heads with what AFP has termed off-the-cuff remark.

Queen Elizabeth II, whom Biden met, died in September 2022 and was replaced by a king — her son Charles.

AFP understands that White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Olivia Dalton cleared up the mystery, telling reporters that Biden had been “commenting to someone in the crowd.”
