The commissioner of Juba County has called on the state and national governments to conduct disarmament in the capital and surrounding areas to reduce increasing crimes.

Charles Joseph Wani made the appeal during the burial of six civilians killed during clashes between security forces and gunmen in KworIjik Boma northeast of Juba.

The fighting reportedly erupted near a funeral place and all the victims are civilians caught in the crossfire.

The police said on Tuesday that the violence was between police officers and elements from the army and Mundari men – an allegation refuted by Bilpam.

Commissioner Charles Joseph Wani condemns the incident and calls for disarmament in the county, which also serves as the state and national capital.

“For our capital to be safe and secure, I’m asking for disarmament to be done in Juba county if can’t be done at the country, let the cattle keepers go away from here,” he said during the burial ceremony on Saturday.

Wani also accuses armed Mundari men and some members of organized forces who are the land dealers of perpetrating the incident.

“Let them leave it for the working class citizen of South Sudan, not for anybody who is to be a land dealer. Land dealer are the killers of the civilian.”
