Collo MPs want their people reinstated in civil service

Collo MPs in the National Legislative Assembly have urged the governor of Eastern Nile State to reverse an order terminating employments of those who come from the two new states.

In October, President Salva Kiir split 10 states into 28. Upper Nile was divided into three: Eastern Nile, Western Nile and Latjor.

The governor of Eastern Nile based in Malakal, Chol Thon Balok, directed his state government last month to end employment of those who now fall under the two new states.

But the Collo MPs have condemned the decision.

The Leader of Minority in parliament, Hon Onyoti Adigo, spoke at the parliament building today on behalf of the six MPs.

“We said the order of the Governor dismissing Collo and Nuers from Malakal town is immediately revoked by the sitting government,” Hon Adigo said.

It’s unclear how many employees are affected, but the MPs say most of them are from two communities.

He also called for withdrawal of SPLA forces from Malakal to allow for cantonment of joint integrated forces.

“If this is not done, then the common man will see that there is no peace going on,” he added.

“There is really a need for these things to take place so that we feel that there is peace.”
