The Greater Pibor Administration has made a commitment to ensure that no more children are recruited into the Cobra Faction led by David Yau Yau.

On Tuesday, it signed the Memorandum of Understanding in Juba with UNICEF and the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Commission.

“There are a lot of children in the reign of fire of the militias and rebels but when and if we sign peace they will have to be taken out of the military immediately because children do not belong to the army,” said William Deng Deng, chairman of the DDR commission.

“They belong to schools and our job is to make sure that our partners, the UNICEF and the rest are able to support us to build institutions for that so that they go to Schools.”

Officials say the MoU is in line with the agreement in May 2014 between the faction and the government that led to the formation of the administrative area.

The deal is expected to lead to the release of up to 3,000 children from the Cobra Faction.
