Govt and opposition forces clash near Bentiu, Unity state

The SPLA and the SPLM in Opposition forces have resumed fighting near Bentiu in unity state.

SPLA spokesperson Col Philip Aguer says the opposition forces started the fighting yesterday.

“There were attempts some days back that forced the SPLA to take the defensive steps to prevent the SPLA in Opposition from carrying out attacks on Bentiu, although, through bombing with mortars or ground attack,” he said.

The SPLM in Opposition forces have confirmed the fighting.

In a statement, deputy spokesman Dickson Gatluak says the SPLA attacked their position in Guit village in the northern part of the state.

He says fighting resumed this morning at Panakuach village.

Both sides have no casualty figures.
