Church leaders return from Vatican

A delegation from the South Sudan Council of Churches who visited Vatican last week is expected to return to Juba today.

They include Daniel Deng Bul, the archbishop of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan and Sudan, Paulino Lokudu Loro, the metropolitan archbishop of Catholic Church, and Peter Gai Malual, the Chairman of South Sudan Council of churches.

During their visit to the Vatican City, the church leaders, headed by Peter Gai Malual, met Pope Francis over the South Sudan crisis.

They told the Pope that nobody in South Sudan is listening to their calls for peace.

“We are getting defeated. Even our word which we are giving to our people, especially to the government, is not being taken care of very seriously,” Archbishop Loro told Radio Vaticana on Thursday.

“So we thought that from here, the church leaders [Vatican] should get [involved] in our situation so that the Holy Father can also talk to the regional and international community to help us.”
