Angola and Egypt have been named host countries for the final window of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 African Qualifiers.

The decision to attribute hosting duties to Angola and Egypt was made following a FIBA Africa Executive Committee last week.

Each of the 12 national teams will play three games in the Second Round of Groups E and F to determine the remaining four slots available for African countries for next year’s FIBA Basketball World Cup in Indonesia, Japan, and Philippines.

From Friday, February 24th until Sunday, April 27th, Angola will be home to Group E, while Egypt will accommodate teams from Group F.

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers started with Window 1 in November 2021 when the Angolan city of Benguela hosted the first round of Groups A and C.

Window 2 marked the first round of Groups B and D in the Senegalese capital city of Dakar last February.

The third Window of the African Qualifiers saw the sixteen teams competing in the second round of their preliminary groups in July in Kigali (Rwanda) and Alexandria (Egypt).

By finishing last in their respective groups, Central African Republic, Kenya, Mali, and Rwanda were eliminated after Window 3.

The penultimate and fourth Window of the African Qualifiers took place in August with the start of the 12-team Second Round in the Tunisian coastal city of Monastir and Cote d’Ivoire’s largest city of Abidjan hosting the where teams were split in two groups of six teams.

Teams in Group E are as follows: Angola, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Nigeria and Uganda.

Teams in Group F are as follows: Cameroon, DR Congo, Egypt, Senegal, South Sudan, and Tunisia.

Last August, Cote d’Ivoire became the first African team to qualify for the 32-nation World Cup.
