Amadi: People subsist on leaves

Author : | Published: Tuesday, June 7, 2016

People are feeding on green leaves due to shortage of food in Amadi State, the Church Peace and Reconciliation Committee has said.

The chairman of the committee, Bishop Paul Yogusuk, says hunger increased in the area after the signing of a peace agreement between the SPLA and a local armed group.

He says the agreement has allowed some displaced people to return home while there is no enough food assistance.

“Following the signing of the agreement and the return of the displaced persons from Kotobi and from the bushes, there has been no sufficient relief assistance that has been given to them,” Bishop Yogusuk told Eye Radio

The hunger is said to have been a result of insecurity and poor rains last year.

Bishop Yugusuk has called upon the humanitarian agencies to deliver assistance to the returnees and the displaced in the state.

However, he said the security situation is stable in Amadi state.
