Abraham Chol, two associates to appear in court Friday-Lawyer Deng

The controversial self-proclaimed prophet, Abraham Chol will appear in court tomorrow for the first time since his detention a year ago.

This is according to his lawyer, Deng John.

He says Abraham Chol who has been accused of subverting the country’s constitution will appear alongside two of his colleagues who were arrested following his detention last year.

The religious man was arrested in July last year after uttering statements to the effect that President Salva Kiir and First Vice President Dr Riek Machar would be kicked out of office by or on Independence Day 9 July 2021.

His arrested on July 8th last year came after a public prosecution attorney issued an arrest warrant and instructed the Northern Division of the police.

Chol’s defense lawyer Deng John told Eye Radio, the government has set up a special court for their case to be led by three senior judges on Friday.

“Tomorrow on date 30TH September 2022, there will be the first seating court of Abraham Chol and the other two accused persons before a special court formed purposely, and the process of this court will start tomorrow [Friday] morning.”

“And from our part as defense body for the three accused persons, we have completed all the necessary arrangements to complete our mandate of defense for those three accused.”

The defense lawyer has called for a fair trial ahead of the court proceeding.
“They have spent one and two months in the prison, till all the necessary process of investigations and this case is transferred to the special court with three judges in one week for the conviction process. Therefore, we are calling for a fair court.”

Early this year, a lawmaker representing Twic East County, David de Dau apologized and urged President Salva Kiir Mayardit to order the release of the self-proclaimed Prophet of Cush International, Abraham Chol.
