Ex-Chelsea player Christian Atsu trapped under rubble in Turkey earthquake

Former Chelsea, Newcastle United and Malaga star Christian Atsu who currently plays for Hatyaspor has been trapped under the rubble following the earthquakes that struck Turkey on Monday.

Turkey and Syria, two earthquake-prone countries situated between three continents, woke up to a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8.

The quake has so far killed more than 1,000 people, injured thousands others and left many missing.

Trukish media reported that the former Chelsea, Newcastle and Malaga player is currently under the rubble of a building. The club’s sporting director Taner Savut is also reported to be in the same situation.

Burak Oksuz and Bertuj Yildirim, two teammates of the Ghanian player were pulled from the rubble, and Ekrem Eksioglu and Osman Ates, members of the coaching staff, also survived.

The Turkish Federation has suspended all scheduled matches until further notice, according to online football news site BeSoccer.
