The National Ministry of Education says school children in South Sudan will no longer be taught foreign syllabi as from next year.

The ministry says the country will no longer use Sudanese syllabus and others.

The undersecretary for general education, Michael Lopuke, told Eye Radio that the last chance for students sitting for examinations using Sudanese syllabus will be this year.

He said those in the third year secondary school will conclude the Sudan’s syllabus because South Sudan has its own curriculum.

“We will be having examinations both for South Sudan curriculum, and also the last for Sudan curriculum will be this year and that will mark the end of it,” Mr Lopuke told Eye Radio.

“From 2015 there will be no candidates that the ministry of education will set examinations for curriculum of Sudan. This year is the last year,” he said.

Mr. Lopuke said South Sudan introduced its own curriculum nearly four years ago.

The country has been using foreign curricula including Uganda and Kenyan’s.

Mr. Lopuke also said seventy-two teachers from across the country have arrived in Juba for marking the secondary school certificate examinations.
