The vice chancellor of Upper Nile University in Malakal says renovation of the higher institution will cost $15-20 million.

Malakal town was badly damaged during the conflict recently.

Professor Isaac Cuir Riak told Eye radio’s Dawn show that the damage of the university during the crisis is very serious and a lot of equipment was looted.

“The damage is very serious; most of the windows and doors are destroyed, offices, classes and laboratory are skeletal,” he said.

“It needs something like $15-20 million dollars to renovate and reequip the university to that level where it can be considered a university as it was six months ago.”

Professor Cuir said the university authority and national Ministry of Education Science and Technology are discussing the relocation of the university to Juba temporarily.
