Ateny Wek Ateny -Presidential Press Secretary.

The government says allegations of ethnic cleansing made on it by the Former Vice President, and the leader of the SPLM/SPLA in Opposition, Dr. Riek Machar are false.

While addressing a Presidential Press Conference, the Presidential Press Secretary, Ateny Wek Ateny said Dr. Machar accused the government of mass killing of a particular tribe.

“The president of the republic is committed to South Sudan, which is multi-ethnic, multi religious, multi racist and will not directly or indirectly engage in ethnic cleansing”, he said.

The Justice Minister, Paulino Unango Wonawilla said earlier this week that the government would only file charges of treason against key individuals, who masterminded the incident.

The Justice Minister also said Former Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the former governor of Unity state, Taban Deng Gai and former Minister, Alfred Lado Gore, along with four others, who are currently in detention will be tried for treason.

The next phase of talks between the government and the SPLA/SPLM in opposition will begin on the 7th, next week, in the Ethiopian Capital Addis Ababa.
