Aid workers continue to face challenges- OCHA

Author : | Published: Friday, September 23, 2016

The United Nation’s Humanitarian Agency, UNOCHA, says aid organizations continue to face challenges in reaching people in need of humanitarian assistance outside Wau town.

It says there is insecurity in areas of Bazia and Busseri South of the town where clashes were reported on Thursday.

In a new report, the UNOCHA says several NGOs have been denied access at a checkpoint in Baggari.

They were taking non-food items, water and health supplies to tens of thousands of people in the area.

OCHA says this was yet one of the latest obstacles it has faced since the conflict erupted in 2013.

It says it has documented 89 humanitarian access incidents where NGOs have encountered in August alone.

The agency also said it registered 64 cases involving violence against humanitarian personnel and assets.  14 of those cases include threats, intimidation and harassment.

A few weeks ago, the governor of Wau rejected reports that some soldiers were restricting access to people affected by the conflict.
