There is a low turnout of students in many schools due to hunger in Amadi State, teachers have said.

Last month, faith-based groups said there was food shortage in the state.

In February, the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission also said people were starving in parts of the former Western Equatoria State.

Officials from different schools now say the hunger has affected attendance.

“Hunger is more than expected pupils are hungry, teachers are hungry and you see everybody growing thin,” said Alison Mamur, head teacher of SDA Primary School.
