The Governor of Boma State, Baba Medan, has called for unity of his people, after the appointment of Gen David Yau Yau as the Deputy Minister for Defense.

Gen Yau Yau was the Chief Administrator of Pibor after signing a peace agreement with the government in 2014.

Mr Medan took over as governor after the creation of more states. But there have been reports of fighting in the state between SPLA soldiers and people suspected to be members of the former Cobra Faction of Yau Yau.

At a ceremony held on Monday evening, celebrating the appointment of Yau Yau to the transitional government, Mr Medan said it was time for the people of the state to work together.

He said political disputes in the state are due to power.

“The people don’t have problem but the problem is here with those who want to be governors,” he told the gathering mostly comprising of Boma denizens.

For his part, Gen Yau Yau confirmed that he was angry with his removal as chief administrator of Greater Pibor and the appointment of Baba Medan as governor. He however, called for forgiveness.

“Let’s open clean pages like what president said in the first meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday.”
