Army recovers some Gambella children

Some of the Ethiopians children who were abducted in an attack on Gambella last month have been recovered, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.

Ethiopian officials said some 200 people were killed and 125 children abducted by gunmen who crossed the border from South Sudan. Some media reports show that 32 of the children have been reunited with their families..

Officials said 180 of those people killed were Ethiopian nationals, while more than 60 were from the attackers.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mawien Makol, said some of the children were recovered last Saturday and kept in a safer location.

Mr Mawien told Eye Radio that Security officials in cooperation with the Ethiopian military recovered the children.

“The effort of releasing the children is going on well. It is just a matter of process to bring back all the children as promised by the government,” he said.

Mr Makol declined to specify the number of the children who were recovered.
