SPLA-IO to arrive within 2 days

The SPLM in Opposition says its forces will start arriving in Juba within the next two days.

Their leader and first vice-president Dr Riek Machar would arrive in Juba soon after the coming of the forces.

The forces are required in Juba to speed up the return of Dr Riek Machar to Juba, who would then work with President Salva Kiir to form a government of national unity.

The spokesperson of the advance team in Juba, William Ezekiel, says the first contingent of the troops will be transported directly from Malakal to Juba.

Mr Ezekiel says the transportation, which was the major challenge causing the delay, has been solved.

“Now airliners have been identified, and I think they’ve started doing surveys in regards to how many trips per day, from Malakal to Juba and so forth,” he told Eye Radio.

Mr Ezekiel could not specify when the forces that are supposed to come to Juba via Gambella in Ethiopia, will arrive.

But he said there are ongoing discussions with the Ethiopian government to allow some of the opposition troops to be airlifted from Gambella to Juba.

They are yet to agree on whether to transport the troops with their arms or not.
