The Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission says he will meet with the key institutions to discuss arrangements for the beginning of the implementation of the peace agreement.This follows the return of the first team of the opposition to Juba on Monday.

The institutions include; the Joint Military Ceasefire Commission, the National Constitutional Amendment Commission, and the Joint Operation Sector.

The JMEC held its second meeting today, since it was established in November. It was attended by representatives from the government, the opposition and the Former Political Detainees.

“We want to hear from the leadership of Ceasefire Transitional Security Arrangement Monitoring Mechanism, and see how best we can support their efforts in future,” said Festus Mogae, “and similarly to hear from the parties on the status to date, on the cantonment of forces, so that we can support their efforts in future.”

Mr. Mogae also says the meetings will discuss quick establishment of the transitional government of national unity, as required by the agreement.

He says they will also discuss ministerial portfolios to ensure that the interim government is inclusive. JMEC is expected to meet with the institutions on Wednesday and Thursday.
