Situation of IDPs in Twic East is ‘desperate’

Author : | Published: Tuesday, November 24, 2015

The Commissioner of Twic East County in Jonglei State says more than 13,000 internally displaced people in the county are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

Dau Akoi says the IDPs fled their homes after an attack in Pakeer village in mid-November.

He says 23 people were killed and many residents fled to the cattle camps.

“The situation is really desperate,” Mr Akoi told Eye Radio.

“We appeal to the World Food Program to make early intervention; at least if they could send this assistance, then we would not find many people in this area dying of hunger.”

Mr. Akoi says the IDPs still fear for their lives and are reluctant to return to their homes.
