IDPs in Lainya in dire need of aid

Author : | Published: Tuesday, November 24, 2015

The humanitarian situation of the IPDs in Lainya County of Central Equatoria State is worsening, authorities have said.

At least 2,700 households fled Wunduruba over fear of insecurity when government forces clashed with an armed group in the area in September.

County Commissioner Augustine Kiri says the IDPs did not receive any food assistance since the beginning of October.

Mr. Kiri says dozen of children are suffering from malnutrition at the primary health care centers and need medical assistance.

“As a result, there are now in the hospital many reports of children becoming malnourished among the host communities and the IDPs,” he told Eye Radio.

“There is shortage of drugs and we also have few staff that are working at the center.”

Mr. Kiri called upon humanitarian agencies, especially the World Food Program, to provide food to the IDPs.
