The judge presiding over the trial of suspended first vice president Dr Riek Machar and seven co-accused adjourned court this morning after the panel found expert report documents were disorganised and did not correspond.

The court was set for the 51st session this morning for the defence to cross-examine a South African forensic and digital expert investigator who had been presenting digital evidence from devices linked to some of the accused.

At the opening of the session, one of the judges, Stephen Simon, said the session was intended for the defence to cross-examine the South expert investigator, following confusion over documents and digital reports submitted by the expert.

However, the Presiding, Dr. James Alala, said the panel had reviewed the expert’s report but was surprised to find that the documents were disorganised and did not correspond.

He then invited both the defence and prosecution teams to approach the bench and asked members of the public to either leave the courtroom or wait outside.

This came after the defence had raised concerns over the mixing of original and altered documents in previous sessions.

The defence team argued that there were discrepancies between the original reports and the copies provided to some of the accused.

As a result, the trial was adjourned until next Monday.
