Duk heightens security after killing of a traditional leader

Jonglei’s Duk County authorities are deploying forces in the area to provide security after killing of a sub-chief, Abuk Jok.

The late Abuk was shot dead on Monday near the county headquarters while searching for a missing cow.

County commissioner Michael Malual says the gunman has not been identified.

He told Eye Radio that his administration is mobilizing youth and the organized forces to be patrolling the area.

“The measures we are taking as the government and a community is to mobilize our youth together with police, wildlife and prison, then the SPLA that are in the area to do a joint operation or patrolling the road from Poktap to Ayueldit, and from Ayueldit to Padiet and a road from Poktap to Patuenoi where the chief was killed,” Mr Malual said.
