The government says it has no objection to the involvement the African Union in the peace process mediated by IGAD.

The AU Peace and Security Council, early last week, added five countries to a committee of IGAD mediators, namely; Algeria, Chad, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Africa.

The Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth, says government will commit to the peace process under IGAD.

“It is IGAD driven and it should remain an IGAD process. This mechanism can be further expanded to include other African States as long as the Republic of South Sudan as a sovereign member state of both IGAD and AU is consulted.” He said.

The expansion of the process comes after President Salva Kiir and Dr Riek Machar failed to agree on the contentious issues in the peace process last month.

The talks are expected to resume this month in Addis Ababa.
