The UK ambassador to South Sudan has urged President Salva Kiir and Dr Riek Machar to make compromises in the next round of talks to reach a peace agreement.

The two leaders failed to agree on the contentious issues in the last round of talks in Addis Ababa.

These include power sharing, the reintegration of forces and the system of governance during the interim period.

The next round of talks is expected next month in Addis Ababa.

UK Ambassador to South Sudan, Ian Huges, told Eye Radio that the leaders have to take risks to make peace.

“What we need is the leadership of this country on both sides to have courage to make those compromises necessary to bring peace to their people. There has to be political compromises that will be uncomfortable for some of the people that are making those compromises. Risks have to be taken.” He said.

The next round of talks will involve the African Union and other members of the international community.
