A South Sudanese family trapped in their house in Omdurman northwest of Khartoum since last month made a desperate plea to the government of South Sudan for a rescue.

Chief Joseph Reng has been trapped with his six children and wife in Manara residential area.

Speaking to Eye Radio while taking cover with his family in the house, Reng says fighting is ongoing despite the parties signing a cessation of hostilities.

For weeks now, he says, they have no food and are only eating biscuits and drinking water.

Reng has described the situation as very bad.

Reng is now appealing to the government to intervene in the situation and rescue South Sudanese from the area.

“The situation is very bad, we are suffering, and now we cannot move out of our house,” Joseph Reng told Eye Radio in a phone interview.

“They have signed a cession of hostilities but the war still going on with heavy artilleries, a lot of South Sudanese have died,

“The big issue is that there is death and robbery, if you did not die, they will rob you, there is no way because there is no security and if you hire a car still they will rob and kill you.”

Reng says that people are being robbed of their property and sometimes killed.

His brother was among the victims.

“One of our brothers travel the day before yesterday [May 22, 2023], and they robbed and killed him on that side of Al Obied and Nuhod,” said Reng.

“Three of them have been killed and all their properties were robbed as they were travelling to Bahr el Ghazal in Aweil,

“I called upon the government of South Sudan to assist us in this situation and take us from this Sudan.”

Last week, some South Sudanese citizens who returned to Raja town from Sudan say their properties were robbed by armed men on the Sudan side of the border.
