Police in Bor of Jonglei State said a young man burned down the house of the father of a boy who allegedly impregnated his sister.

According to Jonglei Police Commissioner Major General Elia Costa, the offender is a 25-year-old man identified as Chol Garang.

Garang had disagreed with the family of the man who allegedly impregnated his sister – before razing their two-room grass-thatched house and escaped.

The incident happened on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

“There is a boy called chol Garang, aged 25 years, went and burned the house of the father of  a certain boy who impregnated his sister so he burned two houses and ran away,” he said.

The girl’s side had reportedly gone to discuss the pregnancy issue with the father of their daughter’s boyfriend, when they fell out leading to the incident.

General Costa said there were no casualties, but two goats trapped inside were killed in the fire.

“The father of the boy was around, but was not inside the house. The things inside the two rooms burnt were two goats plus money three hundred thousand and papers of plot  and some food items.”

General Costa stresses that the police filed a case and are looking for the suspect.
