The Police in Juba have arrested at least 44 suspected armed robbers including six foreigners and recovered 34 stolen motorbikes.

The arrests were made in an ongoing crackdown on armed robbers by the joint operation force which began last week.

The suspects were paraded at the Central Equatoria Police Headquarters with the stolen motorcycles on Tuesday.

Some of them were arrested with riffles including pistols and Kalashnikovs from different localities in the city.

The interior ministry spokesperson Maj General Daniel Justin said the police have so far registered 117 case of missing motorbikes and recovered 34 bikes.

“We managed through this committee to arrest a number 44 criminals including 6 foreigners. They were about 117 cases of boda-boda robbery registered with the unknown person we recovered 34 boda-boda and we are still searching for the rest,” Justin said.

According to General Justine, the crackdown was launched after an increasing motorbike robberies in the city.

“This is the result of the committee formed to investigate cases of Boda-Boda robbery in the town because for the last two weeks, the boda-boda crime rate increased and some people have been killed.”

General Justin called those whose motorcycles got lost to report to the police with documents of ownership.

He also urged the public to report any suspicious robbery activities in their areas to the police.
