The Minister of General Education in Lakes State has dismissed four teaching staff in the state over alleged gross misconduct, despite a court ruling proving them not guilty recently.

In a ministerial order dated 10th October 2022, Minister Nelson Makoi Makur dismissed Alfred Ater Ariua, the Inspector for Gender Equality and Inclusive Education.

He also dismissed Emmanuel Mapuor Mabor, Ater Samuel Ahuo, and Ruben Majak Nhial.

The move comes after the Director General of Lakes State Ministry of General Education recommended the disciplinary action, accusing them of violating the teacher’s code of conduct.

According to the official, the four staff had incited teachers to reject salaries arrears, a claim the court trashed in August.

The teachers, mainly in Rumbek town, were detained for allegedly rejecting a month’s salary and demanding an increment.

They were arraigned in court after spending nearly two months in detention without trial or charges labeled against them.

They were among 20 teachers detained in military barracks, but later 14 were released, leaving six of them in detention.

The 2022 code of conduct allegedly stipulates that a teacher should not write or circulate any anonymous letter or malicious document and must use the proper channels of communication to address grievances.
