Jonglei State government said a passenger car was attacked on Sunday and three children were abducted in Nyirol County.

State Minister of Cabinet Affairs John Samuel Manyuon narrated that seven children were initially abducted during the incident.

He added that the government security forces followed the abductors and recovered four children but the three are still in captivity.

“It happened on the 27th of August an armed youth from Murle Greater Pibor Administrative area attacked passenger that was traveling from passengers from Ngok Payam of Nyirol County,” Manyuon narrated.

“They abducted about seven children, out of which four children were later recovered, and the three others are still at large. The abductors were perused and along the way.”

“There were these children that could not run faster that’s how the four remained behind but the three that they were able to carry and ran away with are still at large.”

Manyuon further called for a unified force deployment and general disarmament in the two areas to address the insecurity.

“We have been calling on the national government because this is beyond the state such that the national government, international communities, and peace partners can come in and see how this cycle of violence can be put to an end.”

“The only solution is when we have unified forces in place that are able to protect the civil population and if a general disarmament that will remove the gun from the hands of the civilians.”

There have been increasing reports of child abduction in remoter parts of Jonglei State in the last few weeks.

On August 11, Jonglei Police reported that a man was shot dead, and thirteen children were abducted by unknown assailants in two separate incidents in the state.

Eye Radio’s efforts to reach authorities in the Pibor Administrative area were not immediately successful.
